I haven’t always exercised regularly, but since starting barre last November and going 3-4 times a week, I’ve been in need of some new athletic wear. Today I wanted to share what I look for in these pieces and a roundup of my recent purchases. If you saw this blog post on some of my favorite bralette’s you probably know that I love Aerie. Not only are they incredibly body positive, but they always seem to have know what the people want and that’s a good sale!
My Athletic Wear Requirements
- Affordability – I’m not one to splurge on athletic wear. If you are that’s totes cool, I just personally prefer to spend money elsewhere like on everyday clothing or makeup.
- Squat Test – It’s def one of the most important step in the process of finding the perfect leggings to exercise in. A good pair of leggings passes the squat test so you can freely downward dog or obviously squat without the whole gym or class seeing your lady parts.
- Flexibility – In most forms of exercise you want the ability to move fluidly without your clothing preventing you from certain motions.
- High Waisted – This is obviously just a preference. I like when my leggings go up to my belly button. That way I’m not constantly having to pull them up.
Aerie Roundup
I would say that Aerie is made up of mostly athletic wear, leisure wear, swim wear, and bras. I have products from each of these categories and can say I pretty much love it all. But they really nailed the athletic wear. They have super trendy styles and colors which is always pretty bomb. When I saw this pretty ballet pink and mauve pair on sale, I was like YES PLEASE. They’re super comfortable and definitely something I’d wear to workout or for a more athleisure kinda day.

I’ve been loving these knotted tops too. You can probably sense a theme here haha. When ya love something you should just buy two of them! They go perfectly with these high waisted leggings since they’re cropped. I also hopped on that biker trend which can also be worn for an everyday look or for working out.
Last but not least, these leggings were less than $15 and everything I could ask for in a legging. I honestly should’ve gotten these in black too because I don’t have a single pair of plain black leggings!

These are all the pieces I have right now, but I’m sure I’ll be needing more soon with how often I wear these! Let me know what you look for in athletic wear in the comments and where you find them. I’ve heard that Amazon has some good pieces, should I order some and do a review?!
