Drugstore lipstick is my jam because ya girl has to have options! I love that I can grab a lipstick while shopping at Target without feeling like I am breaking the bank.
Let’s talk about my lips for a minute. I know you were dying to chat about them. Haha! For the life of me I cannot seem to keep my lips hydrated. Drinking water and using intense lip treatments only work to an extent. I still wake up every morning with dry cracked lips.
Now why did I mention this? Because it matters greatly to what I look for in a lipstick. Even if it is going to be matte it absolutely must be moisturizing. And honestly long wearing doesn’t really matter to me because my lips will likely need a break at most 6 hours in. This is when I usually remove my lipstick and switch to a gloss rather than reapplying.
Think about your lips? What do you need to consider when picking out a lipstick? Check out my drugstore picks below.
e.l.f. Lip Plumping Gloss
I cannot say enough good things about this gloss! First of all plumping glosses help my lips appear hydrated. And while some can be overly annoying and painful, this one is just a slight tingle that goes away within a few minutes. But the plumping effect does not disappear immediately.
I have both the shade Sparkling Rosé (pictured) and Champagne Glam. Both shades are great on their own but I also love them as toppers. Sparkling Rosé adds just a hint of a rosy glow and Champagne Glam is a perfect hint of shine.
L’réal Infallible Pro Gloss
I love that this gloss is more pigmented but not completely opaque. It gives the sultry effect of a lipstain that can wear off through your day or evening without needing to worry about it being a little messy. (There is little room for error or movement with matte lipsticks.) Also, how pretty is this Rebel Red shade?!
Drugstore Liquid Lipsticks
Wet N Wild Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick
This liquid lipstick pleasantly surprised me. It is extremely comfortable, decently long-wearing, and the colors are so great. Although it can be a bit frustrating to have a color appear far different on the lips than it does in the bottle, it was for the better with both shades I grabbed.
Rebel Rose (pictured above the Wet N Wild heading) is very similar to my natural lip color. I always think its great to have a neutral like that in your arsenal. My bottom lip is much deeper in color than my top lip, so it is nice to be able to even it out while still having a neutral tone for me.
Greyson helped me choose the shade Berry Recognize (pictured above) and it did not disappoint. It is such a pretty deep pink with a hint of red. Feels like a more grown up version of hot pink (which I’ve never felt like I could completely get away with on my skin tone!)
Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink
They are not kidding about the super stay part of this liquid lipstick! Minutes after it was applied it would not budge with a baby wipe (my lipstick remover of choice.)
Two complaints I have are that it is slightly sticky and goes on a bit blotchy. Since Visionary isn’t an every day shade for me, I didn’t feel like these made the product not worth it. I am very interested to try other shades though!
L’oréal Colour Riche Matte Lipstick
I have not ventured much outside of the L’oréal family for drugstore lipsticks but only because I’m so sooo happy with them. This is the most comfortable matte lipstick and I’m obsessed with the shades I found.
MATTE-itude (pictured above the L’oréal heading) is the perfect warm nude. With such pale skin, most nudes take the life out of my face. It’s not a good look for me. but this shade gives me that nude lip vibe and I still look alive.
MATTE-LY In Love (how cute are these names too?!) is such a lively, bold orange-red. This kind of color is great year round. It is flirty and fun in the summer and a somewhat unexpected pop of color for winter. I can’t get enough.
L’oréal Colour Riche Satin Lipstick
The thing that I love most about satin lipsticks is that they are so forgiving especially with such a light shade as this one! Caramel latte is my go to when I don’t wanna fuss with my lips. I also use it as a topper when another lipstick feels too dry.
