And I’m back! DJ and I are finally in our new home in Seattle and couldn’t be more excited! In the midst of boxes and the chaos of a cross country move, we needed one live-able and finished space in order to function. That meant the living room was the first to be completed.
All of the decor seen in here are all things we already had. Everything just fit so perfectly in this new space and I couldn’t love it more. We did purchase this bookshelf though because this spot was pretty empty and I needed a place for my books and other pretty things! Before we moved, we bought a coffee table, side tables, and a new entertainment center too. We never unboxed them before we moved because they were meant for the our new place, so it was like Christmas getting them all set up 🙂 Shoutout to Target for that amazing furniture sale!
While I’m at it, I figured I would share a few helpful tips when it comes to decorating a new space. I swear by these tips and even used them in our last home.
Tip #1: Use Mirrors to Your Advantage
When moving from a house to an apartment, space was a major concern. We didn’t want our new place to feel small in comparison and truthfully it doesn’t feel much smaller. I find that mirrors help make a space appear larger though so I put this adorable standing mirror and round mirror in here. It adds to the dimension of the space and it doesn’t hurt to have the perfect spot for those OOTD’s 🙂
Tip #2: Don’t Over Complicate Wall Decor
When I say this I mean a few things. First of all, holes in the wall aren’t necessary for all wall hangings. I swear by the velcro strips by Command. I hung everything in this living room with these aside from the mirror which is much heavier. The other thing is, you don’t want to feel cluttered by wall decor. Keep it simple and only hang a few things on each wall.
Tip #3: Fill empty wall space with a bookshelf.
We had one wall that was super bare and a bookshelf was the perfect fit. It has a combination of books and decor placed just right. I placed some of my prettiest books on the top shelf where I could see them. I left my other books that aren’t as aesthetically pleasing in bins near the bottom. The shelf was the perfect way to complete this space!
I’m still debating on whether or not I want a big rug in here. What do you think, rug or no rug?! Tell me in the comments because I truly can’t decide!
I hope you guys enjoyed a sneak peak into our new home! I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!
