I’ve had my eye on these lovely garment racks for quite some time. We recently did some rearranging in our small master bedroom and I realized that not only could it handle one (without feeling crowded) but it would hugely benefit from one.
My husband and I share a tiny “step-in” closet (walking is not an option there, haha!) and an Ikea wardrobe. The space is really well used in both, so rethinking those areas wouldn’t really help the fact that clothes were still piling up on a chair in our room.
Insert this lovely little number. I seriously don’t mind waking up to this view, and I think my husband enjoys the lack of clutter. Below I’m sharing all the reasons we are loving garment racks below.
5 Reasons We Love Garment Racks
1. Fashion is Art
Prior to getting the garment rack, Mark and I were considering putting a piece of art on this blank wall. To me, fashion is art, so in essence I think we did. I love that my clothes can be enjoyed more often than just when I am wearing an outfit. It is incredibly inspiring!
As you know, I am a big fan of white walls with pops of color in the decor. Now my clothes double as a my pops of color!
2. Outfit Creation is Contained
I don’t know about you but on those days that I try on 15 different outfits, my room ends up looking like it exploded. With a garment rack I can hang outfit items together and eliminate some pairings that I thought would work out even before trying them on.
Also, for whatever reason it is easier for me to throw things on a hook during an at home try on session than put it back in the closet. I know that is totally in my head but it’s been there ever since I started dressing myself so I’m not thinking it is going anywhere any time soon. Haha!
3. Storage and Organization in a Small Space
Like I said, our master is small so adding another bulky piece of furniture was out of the question. On one hand we didn’t really need more space for clothes (everything fit in our “step-in” closet and wardrobes) but it was so hard to visualize. I had a lot more of those “I have nothing to wear days!” With my clothes organized and visible, I find it much easier to get dressed each day.
4. Eye Catching Design
I love how the size and shape contrasts the other pieces in our room and adds interest. My design philosophy in small spaces is to not repeat the same shapes and scale of furniture items. Other than matching bedside tables, everything else in the room is vastly different in size and shape. I even have mixed both modern and traditional elements (which I can better show in another post.)
The sleek design and dark color of this garment rack pops against the white walls. The height of it draws the eye upward and emphasizes the tall ceilings.
5. So Many Options
There are literally garment rack options for everybody! Check out our Pinterest board below. From DIY to high end beauties you can find something that suits your space. I was amazed at all the options and how affordable they were when I started looking to purchase one.
My Target Garment Rack
I toyed with DIY options initially but the hubs and I have far too many projects started to add another. The price was right on this metal garment rack from Target. They even had a deal going where you got $10 off a $50 home purchase so I was able to the the garment rack and hooks for under $45!
One of my deal breakers for a garment rack was the lower shelf. It is perfect for shoes and really helps with the visualization of a complete outfit!
