Hey Babes! Lindsey and I realized that one of us uses mostly drugstore makeup for our everyday routine and the other uses mostly high end makeup. We decided it would be fun to compare and hopefully demonstrate how you can get a flawless face on any budget! Can you guess which is which before you read on?
High End | Smashbox Studio Skin
This foundation has been my go to foundation for as long as I can remember. I apply it with my Real Techniques makeup sponge and absolutely love the smooth matte finish it gives. It literally lasts me like alllll day!! I have combination skin but have eczema along my hairline and beside my nose that gives me a few dry patches. I don’t love how this matte foundation looks on the dry patches, so it may not be the best for dry skin.
These two foundations are seriously the perfect combo! I simply mix on the back of my hand before applying with a Real Techniques beauty blender. The Pro-Glow definitely can stand alone on days that I’m down for light to medium coverage, but let’s be real, I usually go for full coverage. I’ve heard great things about the Milani as a stand alone full-coverage foundation but unfortunately the lightest shade is too dark for my skin tone.
High End | Tarte Shape Tape
I love love love this concealer! I’ve tried quite a few and this one never seems to crease and blends perfectly on top of my foundation. I also use it on my eyelids and my shadows never seem to crease with this stuff either. I apply this with the teeny version of the Real Techniques makeup sponge. It’s so cute!
Once again, I like to be high maintenance and use multiple products. Honestly, both of the first two perform incredibly well under the eyes on their own so it is 100% not necessary to use both. I have not personally compared the two, but I have read that that the Makeup Revolution may be a dupe for the Tarte Shape Tape and at only $7, I think I’ve even convinced Lindsey to give it a try! I use the green Maybelline Cover Stick to combat redness around my nose and the peach corrector by Pixi to combat dark circles before applying foundation and concealer. A little goes a long way with the color correctors!
High End | NARS Blush
I’ve heard just about every beauty guru talk about this blush in the inappropriate shade ‘orgasm’. When I picked this up it really didn’t disappoint! I’ve never been much of a blush girl but am stepping into the world of blush and this was a good one to try.
Drugstore | Physician’s Formula Butter Blush in Plum Rose
If you are not familiar with the whole Butter line from Physician’s Formula, you need to be. First of all, the scent will transport you to a tropical island (or a warm tanning bed, which is where the scent takes me back to, haha!) It is seriously incredible. And this color is soooo beautiful. It is the perfect barely there rosey blush for my skin tone. I can’t get enough of it.
High End | Anastasia Beverley Hills Contour Kit
I’ve been through many different bronzers trying to find my favorite. It’s really hard to find that perfect bronze shade that’s not too orange but still gives off that natural bronzed glow. I use all of the lighter shades in this palette to set my concealer, but I only use the middle bronzer. It seems to be the perfect tone for my skin and it blends so easily!
Drugstore: Elf Blush Bronzer Duo
This Elf bronzer blends well and adds the perfect amount of warmth to my skin. It can be challenge when your skin color is at the extreme end of the tone spectrum ( either end) to find bronzers that will work without looking muddy. This one is great!
High End | Becca Cosmetics Highlighter
I love all of the Becca highlights. I’ve been using the shade Moonstone though for everyday. It really takes my matte skin finish to a glowy look. I love a good highlight!!
I like a highlight that is like “BAM!” when the light hits it. This combo makes that happen. Colour Pop highlights are a weird powder/cream consistency, so I dip my brush into the Colour Pop highlighter first and then into the Catrice high light in order to keep the product on my brush.
High End | Anastasia Beverley Hills Brow Wiz
I’ve been using this brow pencil for years. I probably should try out a few more affordable brow products to see what else is out there, but I do love this product. It lasts all day and it’s super easy to apply.
Drugstore | Wet + Wild Retractible Pencil
This has the unique wedge shape like the ABH Brow Definer, I think. I love how quick this is to apply and the color is perfect! It can be so hard to find brown brow products that don’t pull red at the drugstore. I did accidentally reach for my ABH Clear Brow Gel to set them but I think that the Sephora Clear Brow Gel is comparable.
High End | Smashbox Full Exposure Travel Palette
I have been in love with this little palette for years now for many reasons. One of those is how perfect this palette is for travel. It’s tiny so it’s easy to just pop in your makeup bag or your purse for on the go. I also love that it’s an all neutral shade palette so it really works with any outfit. You can go for a simple more low key smokey look or you can go bolder for night time. I truly love this palette and use it every single day!
This is my first pressed powder palette from ColourPop and I’m not disappointed! This morphe palette is so affordable and you can create countless looks from all of the options.
High End | Tarteist Double Take Eyeliner
I love that this liner has a pencil on one end and liquid on the other. For my everyday makeup lately I’ve just been using the pencil on my upper waterline. I used to always do a wing liner daily, but I’m simplifying my everyday look most often lately.
Phew!! One area that I was not more high maintenance than Lindsey! Haha! No liner for me the majority of the time. It’s like an additional 10 minute minimum commitment for me to do a winged liner so usually it’s a no-go.
High End | Benefit Roller Lash
I’ve tried a few different high end mascaras and this one is a favorite! I’ve never had such lifted lashes from using a mascara. Even without this mascara on after a day of wearing this stuff your lashes stay lifted. I don’t get that super spidery look either with 2 coats of it which is awesome!
Drugstore | Loreal Lash Paradise
So I have to be honest here and admit that I forgot and used my beloved Benefit Roller lash for my first coat. (I know, I know! I use two mascara’s too!) But I was pleasantly surprised with the Lash Paradise and have heard that it compares to Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara.
High End | Kat Von D Liquid Lipsticks
These matte liquid lipsticks are the most comfortable and long time wear liquid lips I’ve ever used. I absolutely love these and want just about every shade. The shade I typically wear on the daily is Ludwig, but I also love Lovecraft and Lolita for a simple everyday look.
Drugstore | Colour Pop Satin Liquid Lip
I honestly hadn’t worn anything from my Colour Pop collection in awhile and was so pleasantly surprised by how well this wore! It lasted 8 hrs and was so comfortable the entire time. I am obsessed this this color for summer too!
PREP, SET & SPRAY
I use the Nivea Men’s as a primer everyday and I can tell a significant difference when I forget it. I don’t know what kind of magic is happening there but it’s wonderful! I actually really like the Malani setting spray. Like most drugstore setting sprays, the spray nozzle leaves a lot to be desired. I haven’t noticed any issues with the wear or appearance of my makeup in spite of the fact that it is not a fine mist. The RCMA No Color Powder is my go to for setting my concealer everyday.
