Hey Babes! Today I am sharing an oldie but a goodie with you. Last March, Lindsey and I uploaded this video about our eyeshadow palette collections and it is our most viewed video! I thought it would be fun to revisit it and talk about which eyeshadow palette I have been reaching for most, now a year later. Just a few minutes into the video and I was already remembering that at the time of filming this I typically gravitated toward warmer eyeshadow looks and more recently I have been loving cooler tones.
One of my favorite things about makeup is that your vibe can change year to year, or even day to day. I used to be one who did the same make up every day because I was literally afraid to branch out. Or I was afraid of what people would think about my “bold” makeup choices. It is 100 percent okay to be someone that sticks to the same makeup routine or doesn’t wear makeup at all. But you should NEVER do it out of fear of what others will think.
There is so much freedom for me in getting to sit down at my vanity and get to choose how I want to express myself through makeup that day. Do I want to be bold and romantic? Or dark and dramatic? Or edgy and fashion forward? or simply get something fresh on my face so I feel and look alive? Let’s be real, that last one is the most realistic for this mom in the midwest. In my mind I live somewhere like NYC where people are bold in their beauty/fashion choices and nobody thinks twice because EVERYBODY is boldly expressing their unique style.
Anyways, all that to say, you do you! After all, you do it best!
The Balm
So I am still not a fan of the Meet Matt Palette and the more I look at it, I’m certain that I received a fake. I think I learned my lesson about buying makeup off of eBay. Click here for the Meet Matt(e) Nude palette that I thought I was getting. I do really love the Smoke Balm mini palette that I have and they made the fan favorite (and one of my personal favs, the hype is real, friends) highlighter, Mary-Lou Manizer so I am definitely up for trying more REAL the Balm products in the future.
Smashbox
The Smashbox Full Exposure palette is literally the perfect size for traveling and is great for both every day use or an evening out on the town. Or just one of your more adventurous makeup days if you are like me. It is seriously such a cool concept because there is a matte and a shimmer formula of each color in the palette.
Urban Decay
Like I said prior to a house fire a few years ago I had the Urban Decay Naked 1, Naked 3, and Naked Basics eyeshadow palettes. AND I literally debated for years about getting the Naked 2 palette as well. The Naked Heat looks sooo good too and would be great if you are feeling warm tones right now! These palettes are such a good investment if you are just getting into makeup. Each comes with a large mirror and a great quality dual ended brush (except for the Naked Basics, I believe.)
YOU GUYS!!! I am so excited!! I just found the UD Naked Smoky palette that I showed in the video (which I thought was sold out) and it is half price at Nordstrom Rack!!! This palette feeds my cool tone obsession and my wannabe edgy vibes. Creating the perfect smoky eye was always a challenge for me, but I think practicing with this palette has given me confidence. Now, I can create one with just about any palette in my collection. If you are afraid of dark eye shadow, I would highly recommend picking this Naked Smoky palette up. It was seriously a game-changer for me!
Lorac
The Lorac Pro 3 was my first venture into Lorac makeup products and I have to say I was impressed. The shadows blend beautifully and this palette is such a great mix of matte and shimmer shades, and warm and cool tones. The possibilities feel endless and I end up with something a little different every time that I use it. The shade Pink Nude, is literally the perfect nude for my skin tone and I use it with just about every eyeshadow look to blend out the edges. I’m super sad that I’ve hit pan on that one. The only con for me is the packaging. While it is a beautiful nude shade, it was almost immediately this messy and does not clean up well at all.
Tarte
I love the Tartelette in Bloom palette by Tartte. I also think this is a great palette for you if you are a newbie or your makeup vibe is on the more natural side. The shade Smokeshow is one of my absolute favorite black eyeshadows. It is the perfect amount of pigment but already looks like it’s been blended to perfection, rather than harsh on the eyelid. Great for someone who is a little hesitant on the smoky eye. I think it is also pretty neutral in tone, not super warm or super cool, which is kind of refreshing.
Anastasia Beverly Hills
It is no question why the Modern Renaissance palette by Anastasia Beverly Hills blew up the internet and I subsequently had to have it. This palette is literally the definition of romance in a visual for me. Like aren’t there just certain colors that you associate with specific seasons or emotions? Ok, just me?! Haha! I’m okay with that! But seriously, I think a lot of people would associate red and pink with romance because you literally cannot get away from Valentine’s Day marketing in our culture.
Well, the Modern Renaissance takes it to the next level for me by adding some deep orange shades and a lovely cool mauve-y lavender shade called Buon Fresco that is probably my favorite. Aside from that shade, the rest of the palette is pretty warm but I still reach for it frequently. I even reach for it just for inspiration when I’m not sure what direction I want to go in with my makeup. This palette also comes with a great brush and the shadows blend like a dream! The other ABH palette that I mention was a limited time palette.
Also, can you believe my hair was that short just a year ago?! AND I’m sure I have trimmed it at least twice since then. Here I was thinking it was taking F O R E V E R to grow back out. Haha!
Lindsey’s Eyeshadow Palette Collection
I’m listing my sister’s palettes below and though I can’t speak to their quality myself, I kinda trust her opinion. After all, she is the one that got me into trying new things with makeup. The funny thing is, when we were kids I was the more girly one and wondered when she was ever going to start brushing her hair. Haha! Times have changed a little haven’t they, Linds?
