LAST MINUTE MOTHER’S DAY GIFT GUIDE

So here’s the thing. I’ve seen a little bit of a Mother’s Day guilt trip floating around the internet recently. You know the trolls that say you cannot possibly be a good mom if you are seeking gifts for Mother’s Day other than the hand-crafted macaroni and glue kind?! I just want to go out on a limb here and say that these people either A. Don’t have a 2 year old. B. Are far enough removed from raising their kids that it is cute again or C. Have their *ish together in a way that I do not nor feel like I ever will. Yes, I look forward to spending my day with the family and hearing all of the sweet “You’re the best mommy in the world!” nothings in my ear, but I would appreciate being spoiled too. And by spoiled, I mean send me away. Ha! There are so many creative ways to treat the Mama in your world to some much needed pampering, even if you are just now thinking about it (Mother’s Day is less than a week away!)

Buy a book that she has been wanting to read. If you don’t know, feel free to click here to check out my 2017 reading list and take a guess at what she might like. THEN, this is the part that matters most, either gather up the kids and LEAVE so she can read in her favorite spot at home or send her to the local coffee shop for the afternoon. If she’s at home, she will likely need a trendy mug so she can sip coffee in style while she reads. You can thank me later.

Stacking mother’s rings. A friend of mine actually gave me this idea.  This is an alternative to the typical birthstone mother’s rings. Instead you gift the same number of simple diamond (or faux) bands as the number of children she has. I LOVE this idea. I’m all about the matching so a birthstone ring is not something I would get much use out of. This is much more my speed. Click here to check out Amazon’s collection of stacking rings. (This is only a good last minute option if you have Amazon Prime, which you can grab a 30-day free trial of by clicking the button in the sidebar!) She will likely need a few hours to share a cup of coffee and show off her new rings with a friend.

Give her a $25 gift card to Target AND a few hours to peruse the aisles solo. This may not seem like a lot but the quiet time to just look around without being interrupted by snack requests, bathroom breaks, or the classic toddler tantrum will make it seem like she hit the jackpot! This little target haul pictured above came in at just $30!

Buy a gift card to a local boutique that she has been wanting to check out or you think she might like. You guessed it, this also entails some alone time to leisurely check it out!  You could also gift a card to a nearby coffee shop or smoothie stand so she can sip while she shops. If you are local you might check out Heart Mercantile, Luna Gifts and Botanicals (pictured above from their FB page, how pretty?!), Shoppe Smitten, or Rose and Remington.

Gift her a spa day. I used to think that I was not fancy enough for such things, but then I won a gift card in a raffle and got my first facial ever. I’m now a believer. That half an hour of quiet with someone pampering me was incredible. I would take this over another material good any time!

Gift her a spa night at home. The other night after my kids went to bed, the hubs went out and I had a little DIY spa night. I started with exfoliating my face with my DIY Shimmer Sugar Scrub. Then did a little facial cupping (click here to watch a quick tutorial – then click here to buy). I finished it off doing a charcoal mask using a mixture of this Dead Sea Mud Mask and this activated charcoal powder. My skin appreciated the nurturing and Mama felt refreshed. Definitely a win!

Plan for a sitter and tackle a house project she has been wanting to complete together. Now this one obviously depends on the mom in your life, but I know a lot of women that this would work for! When threatened with the possibility that one of my desired projects won’t fit in the budget anytime soon, I would gladly swap out a Mother’s Day gift to make it happen!  Also, you taking the initiative and planning for a sitter means the world to her. DO IT!! I’m dreaming of a white, basement family/playroom. I just painted it in the fall, so this is a bit of a splurge, but the boys and I could not handle how dark it ended up being all winter long. We ended up spending very little time down there.

Fellow mama-friends, which of these options sounds the most refreshing to you?

” For what it’s worth… it’s never too late, or in my case too early, to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit. Start whenever you want. You can change or stay the same. There are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you’ve never felt before. I hope you meet people who have a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start over again.
