Honestly, I’m guessing you wouldn’t have necessarily thought to look at amazon for skincare products and tools! By this end of this post, however, I am betting it will be the first place you look.
As with any store, there are definitely some duds and products that just don’t work with your skin type. That is why I am so thankful for Amazon Prime which allows for fast and easy returns even on most beauty products. As you will see below, a few of the products I recently tried just did not do what they claimed, so back to Amazon they went and now I know!
A Little Backstory
Before we get into the goods I thought I would give you a little history of my skin type. Be sure to remember that even if you have a similar skin story to me, the products that work for me might not work for you. Be sure to consult your dermatologist or esthetician before giving these a try!
Soooo the saga begins right when I entered puberty. While my friends were hashtag blessed up top, I had volcanos popping up all over my face. My skin was a horrible mix of extreme combination skin with excessive oil production in the Tzone and flaking dry patches all over. Along with painful cystic acne. I did not know a thing about how to do makeup for coverage at the time so my solution was to cake it on, which I’m sure made the problem worse.
Back then you had to jump through all the hoops to get a dermatologist referral, so I tried all the antibiotics/creams/birth control over the next 6 years. In hindsight there were plenty of other options we could have resorted to to speed up the process. Like seeing an esthetician monthly and getting on a good skincare regimen.
What we believed was the final straw at the time was a drug called Accutane. You also have to jump through a bunch of hoops to be on this medication but I was basically broken from years of bad skin. I was ready to do anything.
And it worked. I had beautiful blemish free skin for 6ish years after taking it. I wouldn’t do it again but I also don’t regret it, if that makes sense?
My Current Skin Sitch
After having my second son and then turning 30 my skin changed. My skin is now a more mild combination of dryness and oiliness, texture, enlarged pores, blackheads on my nose, and visible acne scarring.
I judge the effectiveness of skincare/products and tools based on the improved appearance/health of my skin in regards to those problem areas.

Recent Amazon Skincare Finds that I LOVED.
1. Dry Brush Set
Ok, I’m not going to go into all the benefits of dry brushing for your skin. Honestly, other than softer skin (benefit enough in my book!) I don’t think I have used them in enough of a regimen to know. I do know that this is a great brush set for the value. My only complaint is that the long brush head easily comes off to be a handheld brush. I don’t really see the point in this since there is a handheld brush in the kit. Plus it is incredibly annoying. But that is an easy fix with a little wood glue so it is not a deal breaker.
This kit really works for the whole body and the separate brush for the face is a must!
2. Derma Roller
This is actually the second derma roller I have purchased from Amazon. I moved from the .25mm needle length to the .30mm needle length this time around and I don’t regret it! You are supposed to repurchase these once every 3 months, as the needles get dull. I found that with 1x per week use mine lasted approx 6 months. You can read more about my technique in my At Home Facial post.
I wake up with plumper, younger looking skin the morning after I’ve used this bad boy!
3. Jade Roller
I like to keep it in the fridge. It remains cool for long enough for me to roll it all over my face multiple times. The coolness shrinks pores and firms the skin.
4. Pore Smoothing Essence
Apparently essences are the secret of Korean skincare. I found this anti-blackhead pore shrinking one and had really low expectations. Let me tell you it has blown my mind! I use it in the morning and evening and the results are immediate. There are few products that I have been wowed by and this one is legit!
Recent Amazon Skincare Flops
1. Facial Steamer
Ok, to be honest after I got this product, I was like “Why did I think this would work for my skin type?!” With enlarged pores you want to stick with cold to keep them tight. The idea behind the steamer is that you could open your pores and clean them out, but for me it just made them super prominent.
Also, I agreed with the reviews that said this produced a weird smell of burning plastic when on. Not really something I can tolerate having my face in. Back to Amazon it went!
2. Blackhead Suction Remover
This blackhead suction remover legit sounded like the answer to all of my blackhead problems, but it sucked! Haha! No pun intended.
My days of pore strips are not over, like I was hoping. It did absolutely nothing except give me a nice purple bruise on my chin that lasted for a few days. This might be TMI but my blackheads on my nose are literally sticking out (eww, I know) and not one of them came out in spite of the strong suction. I legit hate pore strips so if anybody has any tricks for getting rid of these suckas let a girl know!!
Did you know?!
Have you tried anything skincare related from Amazon?! I’d love to know whether it was a hit or a miss in the comments!!
