Hey, Babe! We are so glad to have you back for another Style Wise conversation! Today we are going to talk about our younger years. Lindsey and I quickly found that we have very different perspectives on this topic.
Maybe you can guess why from our senior pictures. I cannot believe that I am putting this on the internet. Also, can’t believe that this is probably the first time it is on the internet because Facebook didn’t exist until my college years. Ok, I’m (Jenne) officially feeling old.
What is one thing that you wish you knew about your style when you were younger?
L | This one is kind of interesting for me because I actually remember being way more confident in my style back in high school than I am now. Like I wore dresses to school all the time and didn’t care that I was “overdressed” in comparison to everyone else. There also wasn’t social media back then so I feel like I didn’t have as much trouble being content with what I had.
J | That is so interesting. I definitely did not feel that way back in high school. Like I was confident in my social standing (which is ridiculous to think about now, like I wish I could go back and maybe be less popular and more inclusive of people). But I wasn’t confident enough in my style to go against the flow. I also remember wishing we could shop at Abercrombie and AE like everyone else was but mom thought it was too expensive. Which funnily enough, it is actually super affordable with coupons and sales.
L | Yeah, that is true. I just feel like it would be so much harder to not feel that pressure with social media and being able to see what everybody including those far beyond the school are buying.
J | Oh I agree. On the other hand though, our mom was not really into hair, makeup and fashion at the time. Soooo I would have loved to have access to all of the tutorials that are available now. I think that that type of education would have given us more confidence in our skills (or grown us where I was obviously lacking). It would have been nice to know that we weren’t the only girly girls in the world. Haha! And We definitely felt like we were an enigma growing up.
L | Oh yeah, that would have been so helpful!! So I guess for me, I would tell my younger self to harness the confidence and contentment you have and don’t let go of it.
J | And I would tell my younger self, that its okay to go against the flow and be “over the top” You can lift others up without sacrificing your personal style.
L | Another thing would be to take advantage more of living together and having access to one another’s closets.
J | Oh yeah, it’s totally our dream to live next to one another one day and have our houses connected in a huge closet/office/makeup room! How cool would that be?!
L | Hashtag GOALS. For those of you who don’t know, Jenne and I are 3 years apart so when she was a senior I was a freshman. And lets be real I still didn’t really care about how I dressed or hair or makeup. But I do remember having a lot of fun with Jenne doing my makeup and hair sometimes. But Jenne didn’t really like having her younger sister around.
J | Lol yeah. I’m sorry I was too cool for you. Definitely would focus building our relationship more when we lived together. We were not very nice to one another. That age gap seems to disappear the older we get though. Like now I feel more like peers more often than I feel older than you.
L | Yeah, it definitely doesn’t matter as much now but it probably didn’t have to matter as much to us then.
J | I agree. Younger selves, get over yourselves and love on each other! You never regret making connection with someone a priority, but you always regret when you don’t make it a priority.
L | Seriously so true. So many life lessons come out when we talk about fashion. Haha! It definitely has been something that we have connected over.
J | Yes! And things have changed quite a bit in the last 13 years, haven’t they?!
Ok, guys! That was a fun convo. What do you wish you knew about style when you were younger? Tell us what you would tell your younger self in the comments below and ask us a question for a future Style Wise Wednesday!!
